How to extrapolate 3D aerodynamic coefficients from HAWT CFD simulations: an inverse BEM approach

Abstract In the present work authors developed a methodology based on an inverse BEM method, to easily extrapolate 3D aerodynamic coefficients from HAWT CFD simulation results. Specifically, since method was solution of discrete number blade radial sections, model implemented in Ansys Fluent such way split surface one blades certain sections already at CAD level. Therefore, normal and tangential forces were calculated for each section subsequently provided directly within modified code Matlab. Thus, iterated axial induction factors lift drag coefficients, related local angle attack, torque, power coefficient specific operating condition simulated. The proposed here validated using NREL Phase VI rotor geometry which very good agreement between numerical experimental data found. Furthermore, this allowed insight into effects over it possible compare 2D by section.
